Learning Tarot: The King of Wands

Initial visual response:

This royal figure seems alert, as if he’s about to leap from his throne into action. The banner behind him visually resembles a measuring stick with its yellow color and small markings along the side, which although an unintended visual resemblance suits this king quite well. His throne and wand are both made of wood, which has an upright, orderly quality to it. Warm but with directionality, natural order guiding its growth. There are lion emblems upon his necklace and banner, possibly representing power or a sense of majesty. Also pictured is a small lizard who watches from the ground. The pattern of this king’s cape is made of lizards, tail in mouth, a symbol which repeats in the banner behind him. Lizards have a still quality to them, they wait and then dart suddenly when the time is right, so that you might miss their explosive action unless you are also watching patiently. This king is ready with a coiled kind of energy not yet released. His staff has the buds of green leaves sprouting forth, so there’s this sense of freshness, hints of beginning to grow and unfurl.

After doing some research:

Not only is this a lizard, but a salamander, a magical fiery creature. The salamander holds his own tail as a symbol of infinity. Both the lion and salamander are associated with the element of fire. This king represents a visionary, creative drive and a strong will, as well as charismatic leadership. You have the power to make your plans reality, if you put your energy into their manifestation.
